Surfing the Web can be risky

Web Surfing

Surfing the web can be risky, and you are exposing your personal data to the rest of the world, even when you wish to remain anonymous. The problem is you can actually be exposed to this danger, even when your system is free from virus or malware. Nearly all of your private data such as your browser history, your place of origin, your IP address and your other critical data will be revealed to anyone who wishes to get hold of such information. There is more; should your computer be able to support programs such as fingers or indents, the situation can get worse because they can now get hold of your name and other data you really could not afford to reveal.

Need to know how they got the information from you?

It is easy; every time you visit a website, some data will be collected and stored and every visit to a website actually reveals some form of data about you.Basically, information is intercepted and used by others to track your Internet activities.

Is there a way to prevent it?

Take comfort that you can actually surf the web anonymously if you wish. Note that this is not fool-proof, but it makes it much harder for people to know who you are. Proxy servers let you remain anonymous. Proxy servers can be used to hide your own IP. This will mask your IP address and will be difficult for people to track you.

How do I get an anonymous proxy server? The first way is to get one from a vendor. There are plenty of free proxy services you can use. ShadowSurf and Guardster may be the tool you are looking for; Guardster can be used free, but if you want more options, go for the premium services. ShadowSurf may be the one for you. There is a box that you can enter the URL you want no one to track. Those are the most widely used tools to help you remain anonymous.

When Google is busy filtering its content for the Chinese Government, Anonymizer comes up with a different story. This company, among others, recently (Feb 1st, 2006) pressed that it is developing a new anti-censorship solution that will enable Chinese citizens to safely access the entire Internet filter-free.

Are these the ultimate solution for safety online? No, still, you are much better off if you use such technology. So, what are other issues that need to be taken into account when trying to keep information private? Three other items come to mind when trying to keep your information private. You can use encrypted connection to prevent exposure of data. You can discover more abut this option by surfing the Internet. After each session, delete all cookies. Sometimes, you need to remove all contents that can pose a threat to your safety such as JavaScript, Java, and other active content. This actually leads to limitations, so you need to think about the cost/benefit of this course of action.
